First Parents' Meeting at Isabelle's School!

Last Thursday evening I went to the first parents' meeting at Isabelle's new pre-school. I was quite nervous as this was the first time I was at a parents' meeting as a parent. From my previous posts you might know I am a teacher, so I am used to be the one talking in front of the parents, not sitting among them. That only proved how big our Isabelle is, she is not my little baby any more, she goes to pre-school and will be starting school next September.

I knew some of the parents which I met at the beginning of the school year at a coffee morning organised by school to help parents meet other parents. I also knew all 3 teachers Isabelle has and the headmistress, but I was still quite nervous. We were welcome by one of the teachers, given some hot drinks and biscuits and patiently waited for all the parents to arrive.

I have to say, I really loved the way the teachers presented our childrens' work at school, we saw many slides taken during many activities and seeing Isabelle writing some letters only brought tears in my eyes. I was so proud of her. Then we were explained all the things the teachers will be covering during the year and introduced to the nursery curriculum. As I wasn't born here in the UK, I was very happy that finally someone explained to me the learning stages. The teachers also explained how they observe and assess our children on a daily basis and the evidence collected is used to complete the Nursery learning record. We were also advised on how to help with our child's learning ( sharing books, board and card games, jigsaw puzzles, creative activities, mark making, going for walk, helping in the kitchen, songs and rhymes, and sharing time with other children). At the end we talked about writing and the teacher gave us a copy of letters and rhymes that help the children remember how to write them. They also stressed the importance of phonetics when teaching them the alphabet. Luckily I studied that at the University, so I was doing that already, but many parents seemed to be surprised that when teaching your child how to write the letter "a" you don't pronounce it the same way as you do when saying the alphabet.

At the end we could ask any questions, and one of the mums has told the teacher that every day when she asks her daughter about what she did at school, and she responds "Nothing". Then we all started laughing and many parents, including me, agreed that their children say the same. I was very happy to see all the evidence that Isabelle actually does something at school and cannot wait for the next meeting to find out about her improvements.

My Fairy Magic School - Book Review!

When I was given this book for a review, by the way it is a part of this year's John Lewis Christmas offering, I knew instantly Isabelle would love it as it is about fairies, and she loves anything that has to do with fairies. It's a beautiful glittering pop-up book which tells us a story about Petal, Poppy, Rose and Acorn and their way to the Spectacular Spell Competition at a magical fairy school.

The story is well written by Louise Comfort and we also loved the illustrations by Maggie Bateson. There is a page with press-out fairies and accessories, which you can keep in a special satchel inside the book. There is also a little surprise in there....shhhh I will tell you, a mini magic wand, but don't tell anyone! I am sure that every little fairy could spend hours playing with this book, exploring all the sparkly rooms the magic castle has. I think playing with this book encourages your child's creativity and imagination. It's also great as we can take it with us when seeing Isabelle's friends and they can also enjoy playing together. It could be a perfect Christmas gift for your little princess. For more information or to buy go to the John Lewis website.

      Fisher - Price Play Party!

Can you guess what we did last Friday, just before going on our holiday? We went to this fabulous Fisher-Price Play Party at the Earl's Court! Isabelle and me were picked up by BeingAMummy and drove to Rayner's lane tube station, where we left her car and continued by tube to the Earl's court exhibition centre. Claire was originally a bit scared of travelling on the tube with her buggy and 3 toddlers, but we managed, and I think it all went reasonably well.

We were planning to spend a little time checking the Baby Show, but to be honest it was just too much with the three little monkeys jumping and running around, but we managed to meet the Cosatto team and get our goodie bags! Then we went upstairs to meet lovely Vicki and the rest of the Fisher Price Play Party team. From twitter I knew I would be again seeing a few other fellow mummy blogggers and couldn't meet their children and babies, which I mostly know from pictures or videos. It was great seeing Jax2000, Verybusymama, Cherished By Me and many others.

Isabelle had a fantastic time and none of the children wanted to leave. Would you, if there were so many great toys? The most successful were the giant inflatable hoopla rings which yo can check out on my short video below. They would be great for pre-schools or families with bigger gardens!

It was a great and tiring day, and Isabelle slept well that night. We left with a huge bag full of great Fisher Price Toys ( Isabelle was given only the Guess with Jess Yippity Yeah Jess Talking Toy and the rest will be under the Christmas tree). Thank you Vicki for inviting us and looking forward to your future events!

Our first trip with the new Quinny Zapp Extra!

A few weeks ago we took our Quinny Zapp Extra out for the first time. It was a sunny morning and I needed some bits and pieces for lunch and didn't want to drive to the supermarket, so we went to our local grocery shop. It's a 20 minutes walk and Isabelle always gets tired, and I usually have to carry her on my back on the way back, so I thought it could be a perfect treat for her. As she is 3.5 years old now, we use our buggy only when travelling or for popping to our local store, and Isabelle is always so happy. Just look at the picture above.

She was comfortably sitting and singing along. She kept on putting the hood up, so that I couldn't look at her, my little cheeky monkey! Anyway, as I am used to pushing our old Quinny Zapp, this was no different, exactly the same. I prefer not to have the swivel wheels locked, but that's just my personal preference. We got to the shop quite quickly, and bought what we needed and for the first time I managed to put all we had in the underneath shopping basket, which is not huge, but you can fit in a few bits and pieces. I never put anything on the handles, as previously we had a few accidents with our old Zapp tipping over, so be careful if you do, don't put too much on them! Isabelle also wanted to test the reclining positions, and I can imagine she would easily fall asleep in the buggy if she was a baby!

From now on anytime we need to pop to the high street Isabelle goes in her buggy,  doesn't complain about being tired from walking and we all are happy. I will soon be blogging about the differences I spotted on the new Quinny Zapp Extra, so don't forget to come back to find out more!

What's on my mind & will be for the next few months?

Life is not fair! That's what has been on my mind for the last few days. Would you like to know why? I know I shouldn't be complaining, as we all are healthy and that is the most important, but last Wednesday I found out some not great news for us. It is regarding Isabelle's school. As you might know Isabelle has started pre-school not long ago and really loves going there every morning. She spends there 3 hours, while I have a bit of time to do some housework, cook lunch, go running, blog and twitter.

Last week I was just checking if the dates for applying to this school have been announced and thanks to that I have found out that there have been some changes to the application process made. The first change is good for us, as they will be measuring the distance to the school "as the crow flies", which means it will be a shorter distance than before, but when I was reading the second change, my heart rate rose and  I couldn't breathe properly. I started crying and called my hubby, but he didn't answer the phone. I read it all over again and was trying to assure myself I misunderstood, but unfortunately not.

The bad news was that we cannot directly apply to the school as we don't live in the borough the school belongs to. To explain, we live at the borderline, basically in the first street which is classified as belonging to another borough. Before we were allowed to apply directly to the school, which by the way has excellent OFSTED reports, but we cannot do it anymore. We can still apply, but it has to be done through our borough. I was and still am devastated as we were so happy she got in, has many new friends and great teachers, but what is the chance she will get in next year? My husband thinks I shouldn't get stressed about it yet, as there are many more months before we will find out...but I just cannot stop thinking about it.

Also, this year there were 19 out of 30 children who got in as they have siblings at the school. I understand that you don't want to be taking your kids to different schools, but I still think that it's not fair. I think it's never going to be fair to everyone, and will just have to accept it. I will try to stay positive and optimistic, and believe that she will get in and will stay with her friends and teachers.

Little Miss & Mr. Men Glitter Collections - Kids IQ Books Review & Giveaway!

I have recently been given these two fantastic sets of  Little Miss Glitter and Mr. Men Glitter collections for a review, which by the way are hugely discounted as they are sold in sets.  Actually, I chose these from the huge range of  Kids IQ Books (  http://www.kidsiqbooks.com/ ) as Isabelle owns only one copy of Mr. Daydreamer, that she was given at her previous nursery. As you know, I wasn't born in the UK, so these books didn't mean anything to me until seeing a few copies at my friends' houses. I remember my friends mentioning them and how they used to read them when they were kids. Also there is the Mr Men show on TV, which Isabelle enjoys watching.

All the books are beautifully illustrated and have that extra sparkle thanks to the glitter on the front cover, which Isabelle loves so much. What I like about them is that your child can learn many things from reading these short stories while having fun listening and looking at the pictures. We started with the Little Miss collection first, and we read a book just before putting Isabelle to bed. It has become our new bedtime routine. Her favourite seems to be the "Little Miss Shy and the Fairy Godmother", maybe as it reminds her of the story about Cinderella. I love reading these books to my Isabelle, and am sure that your children would love them too. There were a few questions asked, but that only shows my daughter's interest in the books. Another great thing is that the stories are not too long, so your child can stay focused for the whole story. And as the books are quite small and thin, you can always pop one in your handbag to entertain your little one when out and about.

The 6 Little Miss books (pictured above):
      • Little Miss Shy and the Fairy Godmother
      • Little Miss Stubborn and the Unicorn
      • Little Miss Sunshine and the Wicked Witch
      • Little Miss Naughty and the Good Fairy
      • Little Miss Splendid and the Princess
      • Little Miss Lucky and the Naughty Pixies

The 6 Mr. Men books (pictured below):
        • Mr. Happy and the Wizard
        • Mr. Tickle and the Dragon
        • Mr.Strong and the Ogre
        • Mr.Nosey and the Beanstalk
        • Mr.Bump and the Knight
        • Mr.Jelly and the Pirates

I believe these books could be a perfect Christmas present for your little one. I have some great news for you. I also have one collection of Little Miss Glitter and one collection of Mr. Men Glitter to giveaway, which means there will be two winners winning one glitter collection each!

        How to enter the giveaway?

This week's gallery theme is "fun". As we are on holiday in the Czech Republic, I am giving you my darling Isabelle having fun with her uncle (my brother). Can you see any resemblance?

Is it important to have life insurance?

If you asked me this question a few years ago, before being married and having Isabelle, I would probably answer no, not really. That's how I used to think. But getting married and having children changes our lives completely. Suddenly it's not only you who you are responsible for, but there are other people too.

My husband was always the one who took care of all finances and also decided what kind of life insurance we have. That's just the way it is in our household, and to be honest I am quite happy for that. The first time I heard about it was when we were buying our house and were applying for a mortgage. They were interested in what kind of insurance we have. Then I didn't hear about it for a very long time, except a few phone calls from companies trying to get us to change to their insurance.

But then a few weeks ago my husband had this health concern which I was blogging about too, and at that time my he was making sure I knew what our life insurance covers. When he started to talk about it, I was trying to stop him, I just didn't want to talk about it, but then I realised I had to do it for Isabelle. She is our only child and depends on us, we are responsible for her, so I listened and just hoped I would never need it. Luckily my husband is OK, and at least I know a few more details about the insurance.

There are many companies offering different things, you just need to shop around and I am sure you will find exactly what you need. Don't forget your children are dependant on you, so don't leave it until it's too late!

          Isabelle's First Half- Term holidays!

It has been only a few weeks since Isabelle has started her new pre-school, which is part of the school, she will hopefully get in next year. As we will be spending Christmas in the UK this year, we have decided to see my family in the Czech Republic during this half-term holidays. Luckily Isabelle's cousins will have a few days off too, so she can again enjoy their company as well as her grandparents, her uncle and many others. She is very excited and I am sure she will have a great time as she always does.

At the same time we will be spending a week in Barbados, just me and my darling hubby. We have longed for this holiday for ages and I think we both deserve it. I will miss Isabelle, but I know she will be fine with my parents. I am flying to the Czech Republic with her, will spend a few days there and then fly back here and get ready for our romantic holiday. I think it's good for her to start getting used to be without us for a bit longer, as in the future when I'm back to work or so, she will be spending most of her summer holidays there without us.

So, I will be back in a few days, enjoy nice autumn days and be well!

My 1st Years Personalised Baby Gifts - Review!

If you are a  fan of XFactor, then you must have seen Danni Minoque being given some personalised gifts for her new baby boy. Well, I am very pleased to tell you that a few days after seeing the show myself I was contacted by My1stYears to review one of their products. It didn't take me long to say yes, wouldn't you? One of my very good friends in the Czech Republic is expecting a baby boy and they have chosen a name for him, so I thought it would be just the perfect gift for him.

I was asked for the boy's name and didn't know what gift to expect. It was very exciting. In two days we had a delivery and when I opened the parcel, I had tears in my eyes. There was this beautiful light blue box with a silky ribbon. When I opened it, there were the cutest little navy booties I have ever seen with his name written on the sides. I have seen cute little newborn booties before, but the fact they are personalised is just fantastic. You can add your own personal message, name or date of birth to your choice of baby garment, toy or accessory.  I cannot wait to see him wearing these. It will be a few months, as he is due just before Christmas, but I am sure my friend will love them.

I have also checked the other products they have on offer, and I can tell you, there is a lot to choose from, for both boys and girls. For more information visit the official website http://www.my1styears.com/

Is this the end of Isabelle's after lunch napping?

Isabelle is 3.5 years old, and until last weekend she has been regularly napping after lunch without any problems. When she was much younger, she slept for 2-3 hours, but in the last 6 months it has changed to 1.5 hours. She goes to bed at about 7.30 and sleeps through the night most nights. Recently we have had a few nights when she woke up sweating and being scared, so we have started to have her door open and leave the dimmer light on too.

I know you are thinking, well, this is just unusual for a 3.5 year old child to nap after lunch. I don't think so. All my friends' children here in the UK, that are the same age gave up their naps when they were around 2 or even younger, but when they go to nurseries, they nap there. So why don't they nap at home after lunch? I look at it from a completely different side, as in the Czech Republic children have a nap at kindergarten until the age of 5 ( I used to teach there during my summer holidays at University), and there is no discussion whether they want to sleep or not. It's good for them, and that's it.

Isabelle was fine on Saturday and Sunday without a nap, and went to bed at normal time, not any earlier. On Monday she also said she didn't want to nap and in the afternoon we went to an indoor play area. She was soon exhausted and fell asleep in the car on our way home. I had to wake her up, and you cannot imagine how miserable she was for the rest of the evening. That night she was in bed by 7pm. The next day I explained to her she had to nap at least for half an hour. She asked for staying on our sofa. I agreed. Since then every day after lunch she naps on the sofa, sometimes half an hour, sometimes longer and we all are happy.

I just think  she is too young to stop napping at her age. I know she will have to give it up once she starts school next year, but I hope she will be napping until then.

Lansinoh Manual Pump, Breast Pads and Storage Bags Giveaway!

When I was breastfeeding my Isabelle a few years ago, I developed mastitis. It was very painful, so painful I can still remeber the pain, but I didn't give up and managed to breastfeed Isabelle for almost a year at the end. One thing I remember is that I used Lansinoh cream and it really helped healing my sore nipples. I have been contacted by the PR of Lansinoh and they have donated one Lansinoh Manual Pump, Breast Pads and Storage Bags to one lucky reader.

At the moment Lansinoh are also carrying out a survey to find out how the nation really feels about breastfeeding. As a thank you for taking part they are offering a Lansinoh hamper worth £250 on their website!

The Tiny Socialite BumGenius Collection - Review!

When I was asked to review the new nappies from The Tiny Socialite BumGenius Collection, I thought not many of my friends would be happy helping me with this, as none of them was using reusable nappies (wh ich    is sad), but when they saw the samples, one of them decided she would give it a go as they just look and feel soooo gorgeous! I was given the blue and yellow samples, but as you can see above, they come in 5 different prints.
            • black and white: Eiffel Tower
            • yellow and white: Free Spirit
            • teal and lavender: Retail Therapy
            •  red and light green: Concrete Jungle
            • blue and twilight: Jet Setter
When seeing these, I thought maybe if I had these when Isabelle was tiny, I would have given it a go too, as I hated how many nappies we all use for our babies. At least I managed to potty train my daughter much earlier than many mums. Isabelle was out of nappies during the day around her 1st birtday and when she was 15 months she stopped having them at night as well. Yes, it is possible and most of my friends' children in the Czech Republic were out of napies at similar age.

But back to my review. So what did we think? There are so many great features you will appreciate. The nappies are one size, which means they basically grow with your baby. You just need to adjust the rise of the nappy as your baby grows to give you 4 sizes from XS to L. I think that's fantastic. I was also impressed at how soft the sueded fast dry liner is and that it had 6 layers of absorbency to give extra protection. The discreet pockets are great as you can slip in extra inserst for overnight or when needed. It's not only the inside we loved, but also the outside fabric, that is very soft and looks so cool. The last thing to mention is definitely going to make you happy. They are machine washable up at to 30 degrees and you don't have to take the insers out! My friend's baby looked very comfortbale in it and there were no leaking accidents, and as she said she will try using it more and use disposable napies less. Which I think is great.

These gorgeous nappies don't officially launch until November but are available to pre-order now from www.babame.com, RRP 15.99 for a bumGenius One Size nappy and £18.99 for a bumGenius Organic One Size nappy. As this is a limited edition, you should get your hands on one of these soon before they are all gone!

You Are What You Eat and Other Mealtime Hazards - Review!

When choosing this book for a review, I had no idea what to expect. As Isabelle is not usually a fussy eater, I just thought it would be nice to read some book about food with her. When I opened the book and looked at the first page, I had to laugh at the illustrations, they were really funny. And then it started, all these questions Isabelle was asking. I read her what it said on the pages and millions of questions followed. To be honest, as I am not a native speaker, some of them I have never heard and later on had to ask my English husband...which even he had to look some of them up. How would you explain a 3.5 year old daughter what this expression mean: "If my dog, Roger, can eat the same thing all the time, why not me?"Use your noodle!" my mother said.

To sum up, the book made me and my husband laugh, but my Isabelle was just confused, so I don't think it's suitable for her age group, but older children would like it, as it is a book explaining eating habits in a funny way. After reading it, I knew straight away who would love this book. My very good friend, an ESL teacher, who could use it to teach idioms to her students!

The book is written by Serge Bloch, ISBN 9781402771309, £8.99, Publisher - Sterling, and you can buy it here www.thegmcgroup.com

            Fitness Tuesday - Week 13!

It is not easy to get out and go running, it's actually getting more and more difficult (I managed to go 3 times last week). But I always remind myself about the vision of running 10km in the spring and then just go. It has also been much colder, so I have started running a bit later, not straight away after dropping Isabelle off at school. It's quite funny seeing me in my running outfit in the morning, all the mums and dads are dressed for work or casually and here I go in my tight trousers, fluorescent raincoat and trainers.... But one of the mums goes power walking, so we always chat and maybe one day I will persuade her into running with me. That would be much easier for both of us to get out there and just do it together ;)

As every week I suggest doing the following exercises every day until next Tuesday. It will not take you long, you don't have to do them all at once. If you feel comfortable doing more, do it, if you feel you might need to do less, don't worry, do less this week and do more the week after. I am not a fitness instructor, I am here to encourage you to do some exercises to get fitter and hope you will be there for me too.

I suggest doing the following for the next week:
            • 55 sit ups (towards both knees)
            • 55 sit ups (touching your left knee)
            • 55 sit ups (touching your right knee)

Organic My Munchkin Baby Towel and Bathrobe Review and Giveaway!

I have some great news for you. Not only I was given a white organic My Munchkin Hooded Baby Towel  and a white My Munchkin Bathrobe for a review, but I have one of each for a giveaway as well. Isn't that fabulous? OK, let's start with the review. When you check the website, you will see the baby towels come in white, pink and blue. The bathrobe comes in white colour and you can choose from a frog or brown bear footprints embroidery at the front (size 12-24 months). All products are made of 100% pure organic cotton and are sooooo soft. When using the baby hooded towel, just fasten the velcro fasteners around your neck, and you have both hands free for drying your baby. What I really like about the bathrobe is that the belt is fully sewed to the back of the bathrobe, which means you will not loose it and your little one cannot harm himself / herself while tripping over it or playing with it. For more information or to check out the whole Munchkin product range, go to the official website http://www.mymunchkin.co.uk

             My Munchkin Giveaway

Do your children tidy their toys without moaning?

In two days our Isabelle will turn 3.5, would you believe it? Well, what can I do,  I cannot stop the time, can I ? Anyway, in the last few weeks we have been battling with "tidy up time". She used to be very good and always used to put her toys away when asked to do so, until recently. She would even come up with a strategy that I should do it as she was very tired... Then I thought of an idea, a mess fairy.

I told Isabelle that every night, when everyone is asleep the mess fairy visits childrens' houses and looks for toys that untidy children left behind and gives them to children who have no toys! At first she looked a bit suspicious, and started laughing, but as I didn't laugh she started thinking and within a few seconds, all the toys were put away. At first she just put them all on one place, but I explained to her, that they have to be exactly where they belong, so if the toy is from her bedroom, it needs to be put back there.
It's been a few weeks now since the mess fairy comes to our house and guess what, she hasn't been very successful in our house, as Isabelle always remembers to tidy her toys and even reminds me or daddy to put our things away... as they could be taken away too ;)

When I told my friends about our mess fairy some of them laughed, but some of them started using it as well. And I think that our mess fairy visits not only our house, but some others since then. Will she visit your house or you don't believe in mess fairies?

Moover Pram by Hippychick - Review!

I cannot express how excited I was when I found out I would be getting a red Moover Pram by Hippychick for a review. It took a while before it arrived as it is so popular and the demand is huge, no wonder, have you ever seen any wooden doll's pram more beautiful than this one? I have heard of Hippychick before and a few of my friends have bought the famous Wheelybugs for their children, but didn't know about their new Moover range until we saw this Moover pram at our friend's house. Anytime Isabelle came for a visit she loved playing with it.

When it finally arrived I made sure to put the box away and opened it at night when my husband was back from work. When we opened the box I was so pleased, and my husband just raised his eyebrows and agreed that this is not just a wooden toy, this is a masterpiece, and looks amazing! Our friend went for the neutral colour pram with red wheels, but when I checked the website I asked for the red version and absolutely love it. The wheels are yellow and shock absorbing, which is fabulous as we have wooden floorboards downstairs, so no need to worry they would get damaged! There is also plenty of place for Isabelle's baby doll. This pram is suitable from 10+ and comes assembled, which is great. As this is such a unique toy, we have decided not to give it to Isabelle before Christmas which will be here in no time. I am absolutely sure, this is going to be the "wow" Christmas present and will keep you up to date.

              The main features:
              • available in natural colour with red wheels or red colour with yellow wheels
              • suitable from 10 months
              • Weight: 1950 grams
              • Product dimensions: length: 42cm, height: 44cm, width: 25cm
              • RRP £65.00
I cannot imagine a better Christmas present for a little girl, hurry up and order it, as I was saying they are very popular and I hope that now you can understand why! To order or read more information on this pram or other Hippychick products go to the official website  http://www.hippychick.com/

Thank you Hippychick for such a great product!

Do you go on holidays without your children?

I think there are four groups of parents, when it comes to this question. The first one would say: "No, I would never do it!"  The second group would say: "No, I would love to do it, but cannot imagine being without my children" The third group would say: "Yes, we often do it, and don't mind leaving my children at home" and the last group would say:" Yes, we do it, but worry about my children when away from them".

Which one would you fit it? I have to say that I always thought I wouldn't be able to leave my Isabelle at home or with family and go on holidays, but I do, not very often, but I do it. The first time I left Isabelle with my mum overnight was when she was 3 months old and we went to my friend's wedding. It was the first time and I didn't sleep much that night. The first holidays we had without Isabelle was when she was almost two and went skiing to Austria and she stayed for 5 days with my parents. I have to admit I missed her very much and called her every day. Since then occasionally I leave her for two nights when visiting my friends in Prague, but the longest ever was 5 days. In two weeks time we are flying to Barbados for 10 days. I thought about it a lot before booking the holiday, but have to admit that I trust my parents and my family 100% which makes it much easier to leave her there and go on holidays. It is easily said, but I am sure I will miss her very much. Is it worth the stress? I don't know, this is going to be the first time we will be away for 10 days, not in Europe... the closer the departure date gets the more worried I get. Of course I am very excited about this holiday, also think my husband deserves it as he works very hard and has a very stressful job...also maybe baby number two will come soon, so to be honest I think this is the last time to have a real romantic sunny holiday we used to have before having Isabelle. It might sound very selfish to some of you, but that's just us. When I told my mummy friends, nobody was against it, but most of them said they would love to do that, but probably never will. I hope this holiday will be great and also hope Isabelle will enjoy herself spending some time with her cousins and family in the Czech Republic.

Best Christmas Book Ever by Richard Scarry's Review!

When I was given this book for a review, I knew it would be the perfect time to start talking about Christmas, as I am sure that you have already noticed some Christmas decorations or trees at some department stores. The kids notice everything, so even our Isabelle has realised the Christmas will be here soon. When I asked her if she remembered meeting Santa last year, she said yes and also pointed out she would like to see him again.

Last few days she hasn't been feeling great and I was trying to keep her in bed for most of the time. After seeing many movies the time came to read some nice stories. Then I remembered this book. So I told her I had some surprise for her, she was very excited and happy. The first thing she said was, but mummy, this is not Santa, this is a teddy dressed in Santa's clothes!

And what did we think of this book? Isabelle loved the illustrations and was listening to the stories with a great interest. There are a few stories of Lowly Worm, Huckle Cat, Sally Cat, Big Hilda and other friends, all really nicely written. But you can find not only short stories, but also songs and games, and instructions how to make a great gift , which we will definitely be making closer to Christmas too. One of the songs Isabelle still remembered from last year, so we sang "Jingle Bells" and we keep on practising the "Silent Night," which is my favourite Xmas song.

There is one story, which we both liked the most, about bad kitten twins who are horrible to everyone. Santa knows that and instead of gifts he gave them some coal. But that night the snow storm broke the electrical lines and people couldn't cook their Christmas dinners. So the bad twins gave a bit of coal to everyone so people could cook their dinners and keep warm, and saved everyone's Christmas. Santa saw that and gave them some presents after that, and since then the bad twins became good twins and every year they get many presents but also a piece of coal to remind them of the past.

You can buy it at http://www.thegmcgroup.com/pc/homepage.asp, ISBN 9781402772184, £9.99, publisher - Sterling, publication date - Autumn 10

The worst times - when your child is not well!

When I picked Isabelle up from pre-school on Wednesday, she looked very tired and almost fell asleep when having her lunch. It's not like her, she is almost 3.5 years now, and I cannot remember when she fell asleep the last time...must have been many months ago. Anyway she went for her afternoon nap as she always does after lunch and woke up after an hour or so. She looked fine, a bit tired, but was very excited about seeing one of her friends that afternoon. We had an hour before her friend arrived, so we read her favourite Zingzillas magazine and then I realised as she was sitting on my lap, she felt a bit warmer than usually. I checked her forehead and cheeks and went upstairs to get our new thermometer. Her temperature was a bit higher than normal , but nothing to get worried about too much.

Then her friend arrived and they played nicely and later we went for a short walk to the close by park. When we got back home she was suddenly very tired and when I checked her temperature, I realised it was around 38.5C, so I gave her some nurofen jr. She ate her dinner fine, had even some fruit without any protests. Then daddy arrived home from work and she was cuddling him. Her temperature was lower after taking the medicine, but was still not normal. I kind of new, there could be a chance of a rough night, so have asked her if she wanted to sleep in our bed, which she refused. She went to bed fine.

At 10pm, when I was getting ready for bed ( a bit earlier than I usually go, but as I said I kind of expected her to be waking up that night) she woke up and was crying. I checked her temperature and it was higher again... I put her in our bed and she fell asleep again. As it was not long enough after taking nurofen jr before going to bed, I didn't give her anything. So off we went to bed. At about 12.30 she woke me up. I touched her and she was so hot. When I checked her temperature, it was almost 40C! I gave her some more nurofen jr and wiped her face with cold water, kept the window a bit open to get some fresh cool air in. She wasn't shivering or sweating at all, that was a bit strange to me, but she was very tired and went back to sleep. About an hour later she woke up again. She sat up and looked at me, and I knew something was going to happen...I picked her up and she started vomiting! Well, that's not the end of the world.... it was everywhere, but at least she didn't vomit when sleeping. She started crying and that's when daddy came upstairs and helped me a lot. He tidied everything while I was changing Isabelle and thinking of what to do next as she couldn't take any more medicine. The answer was doing the same thing that my parents used to do which I absolutely hated as a child and still remember, but it always worked! Wrapping her in cold wet towels!

I got everything ready and with the help of my husband we wrapped her in cold wet towels. She didn't like it and was crying and screaming, but we wrapped her in a few blankets and I was holding her, cuddling her and singing the whole time, as singing always seems to calm her down and it did this time as well. Half an hour later I checked her temperature and it did the magic, it went down to 37.8C. We dried her body and put her favourite PJs on. She fell asleep soon after this and me too... not for long as I kept on waking up and checking her temperature, but it wasn't raising, so I was happy. We woke up at 8.30 and her temperature wasn't normal, but only just a bit higher than it should be. We spent the whole day in our bed watching Disney movies, reading books and napping. In the evening I knew she was much better, as she started to be bored and being a bit naughty. I had time to check twitter and there I got a few tips on lowering high temperature, basically most of you suggested giving calpol and nurofen jr, as you can use both. Well, I know it for the next time. Thank you for your great advise.

                Another Creative Afternoon with Isabelle!

As we seem to be spending more and more time at home or indoors, I have to think of more creative activities for Isabelle. The other day I was shopping in a supermarket and there I saw some discounted Dora fabric paints (50p!!!). I thought we could paint some of Isabelle's plain t-shirts. When I asked Isabelle if she would like to paint her own t-shirts, she looked at me and said:" but mummy, you are not allowed to paint on your t-shirts, don't be silly!" I had to laugh and explained that this would be different, we would do it together with some special paint which is for drawing on fabric. She was very happy and I had something to do with her on that afternoon.

I was impressed at how Isabelle was using the little paint tubes and squeezing the paint on her t-shirts. I chose one of her favourite singlets and created a butterfly, but the other two t-shirts were my Isabelle's creation! Just look at her sticking her tongue out when painting the t-shirts!

She loved it and also loves wearing these designer t-shirts. It was great fun and am sure we will be decorating some more again soon!

The Gallery - My Favourite Photo!

                   A few days old Isabelle

This week's gallery theme is "my favourite photo". I have spent a while looking at all photos of Isabelle and decided for this one. She is just a few days old and if you look at her, you can see her smiling. She was probably dreaming about mum's boobs. I love this picture as it reminds me how tiny she used to be. Now she is almost 3.5 years old... the time flies and unfortunately nobody can stop it. Would you recognise her? Probably not ;)
