Fantastic Hippychick Waterproofs Reviewed!

Just before Christmas we were sent a pair of Hippychick waterproof dungarees and a pink fleece lined jacket. I was so pleased as that solved the problem when taking Isabelle out in the snow. I asked for the 3-4 years size, and I was a little bit worried that both items could be a bit tight as Isabelle will be turning 4 years in April, but I was nicely surprised how generous the sizes are. If we are lucky, she will be enjoying this fantastic waterproof outfit for many months.

The dungarees can be worn over trousers and are great for snowy and rainy days. They can be adjusted and kept in place by using Velcro stripes around the waist and ankles. The pink jacket is also waterproof and has fleece lining, which is very soft and keeps my daughter warm. It also has the Velcro stripes around wrists and has a hood with a shield. That is a great idea, which helps to keep the hood on her head and protects her from the wind.

  • Made from the very highest quality Teflon coated nylon, the clothing has been designed to be completely waterproof, windproof and breathable.  Seams are fully taped for waterproofing.
  • Machine washable at 30 degrees
  • Available from the official Hippychick website, RRP £22 ( dungarees), RRP £ 35 (pink jacket)

So these are the practical features which every mum will appreciate, but what we love even more is that the outfit serves its purpose but also looks very cool and stylish, which means that Isabelle loves wearing it. You should check out the whole waterproof collection, there is something for everyone, boys or girls, I am sure you will agree!

Who doesn't love face painting!

I think that most children love face painting. We have a Snazaroo kit at home and very often Isabelle asks me to create some new faces. Usually she asks for a butterfly, but I have also managed to create quite a nice ladybird. When I finished her face, she decided her grandfather needed his face painted as well and here is the result!

Our New Family Friend - A Flying Squirrel!

A few weeks ago our Isabelle asked for a bird's house and some seeds and nuts for her birdie friends that fly to our garden which she loves watching. Soon after placing the bird feeders in our garden there was a little bit different quest that was trying to have some of the nuts. It was a squirrel. It took her a few weeks to find out how to get the nuts, but this morning she succeeded. We had a fabulous time watching her and I managed to film her first successful jump on my flip. Check it out!

Make The World Play - IKEA’s MÅLA Art Equipment Review!

Just a few days before Christmas we had a delivery from IKEA, we were sent some fabulous MALA art equipment from their PR. I couldn't wait to show it to Isabelle, as she is very creative and loves painting and drawing. The set included all the necessary stuff for creating some fabulous paintings and drawings. Isabelle really enjoyed painting on the easel and has also learnt how to create new colours when mixing some of them. As she loves pink, we showed her that mixing white and red, she will get her favourite colour. She was very excited when she realised that mixing red and blue she gets purple. At the end we agreed she might become a famous expressionist artist!

As you might know Isabelle started pre- school in September and learning letters and numbers is what they focus on at school mostly. Using the white board is not only fun but also helps her when practising writing letters and numbers. On the other side of the easel, there is a chalkboard, which again she can use for drawing or writing letters and numbers. There is also a little storage shelf to keep all the chalks in. We were also given a MALA paint & draw storage box, so that she can keep all the equipment tidy, which all mums will definitely appreciate.

We have always been big fans of children's IKEA products and many of our friends are too. We love the bright colours and modern design furniture as well as their toy range. This MALA set is definitely one of the best products we got for testing and am sure a few or our family members will be given some paintings as presents from Isabelle in the future.
So what do we think if the MALA equipment? We give it A+++

I would also like to tell you about an IKEA competition called Your Fridge Door – where you can upload a photo of your child’s artwork and each week a winner will be chosen and they will win the MALA set we were given for a review - http://www.flickr.com/groups/yourfridgedoor/

Just a few days ago they launched a brand new project called Toy Stories – it allows children with their parents to use this Facebook application to create their own book with illustrations! Go and check it out! http://www.facebook.com/#!/maketheworldplaymore?v=app_115270405210419

Go Go Go Show Review!

A few weeks ago I was mentioning we would be seeing this show and last Monday we finally went to the city to check it out. Because of the snow conditions we allowed plenty of time to get there and we were actually really early, so we spent a little while just walking around Leicester Square. I picked up the tickets at the box office and then we went to the Leicester Square Theatre. We were offered a booster seat for Isabelle, which was an excellent idea as she wouldn't see much if we didn't have it.

Straight away as we entered we realised there were many socks placed everywhere, and soon after the show started, we were told why. Isabelle was sitting down, watching carefully and asking so many questions, which most of them started with the famous word "why".  There was a little break in the middle of the performance, which was good, as we had to rush to the bathroom and got a drink as well. We both really enjoyed the show, the songs and the jokes. I thought there was plenty of interaction with the audience, which is always great for the kids. Towards the end of the show I looked at Isabelle and she didn't look very well. She was feverish, but luckily the show finished soon afterwards and we didn't have to leave early. After the show we had a chance to meet Gemma, Kirsten and Holly, and we even got their autographs on a special golden member card. Isabelle didn't really want to meet the boys, but they were very good as well. The show was brilliant and would definitely recommend it for her age group.

Unfortunately the journey back home was not that easy, we were waiting for a long time to get on a train as it was the rush hour and then the train changed the final destination, which meant we had to wait in the freezing cold for a bit. Luckily it was just about 15 minutes and then daddy was able to pick us up at the station. We put Isabelle to bed very soon after getting home and gave her some medicine to bring the temperature down.

There is still time to get the tickets, here is the official website http://www.gogogo.tv

Traditional Czech Christmas Dinner!

When it comes to Christmas there are a few things that always come up when you say this magical word, Christmas tree, presents, family, love and delicious food! I have already showed you our Christmas tree, I will not be sharing presents yet, but will share our family potato salad recipe and reveal how we celebrate Christmas in the Czech republic.

As the main celebration happens on December 24 in the evening, we usually spend the whole day cooking and getting everything ready for the big dinner. Our traditional meal is potato salad and fried carp, but as we got quite spoiled with great seafood when living in Sydney, we don't eat carp anymore and prefer some nice seawater white fish fillets instead. The potato salad is made a day in advance and here is what you will need:

  • 500g boiled potatoes in skin then peeled
  • 500g boiled vegetables - carrots, parsnips, celeriac
  • 200g German salami
  • 4 hard-boiled eggs
  • 1 large onion
  • salt
  • 200g tartar sauce
  • 100g mayonnaise
  • 6 gherkins
Peel all the boiled vegetables and eggs, cut them in small cubes,  add chopped onion, gherkins and salami, mix everything together, and then add the tartar sauce, mayonnaise and a bit of salt. Put the mixture in a dish with a lid or cover with cling film.

And how do we eat the fish? We usually have it breaded (flour, egg mixture and breadcrumbs) and then fried. We also have some turkey or chicken schnitzels for people who aren't keen on fish. And for a dessert we eat our traditional Christmas Czech cookies. Enjoy and have a lovely Christmas!

Decorating our Christmas tree!

I have always loved decorating Christmas trees and couldn't wait for the first time to do it with Isabelle. As she hasn't been feeling well and looking after our friends' son till Sunday night, we had no chance to put it up till Wednesday afternoon. Isabelle was still feverish, but she was so excited and also we needed to have it up before my parents arrive.

As a little girl, I used to decorate it with my father and brother on 24 December, in the morning, when my mum was busy baking and cooking. It was the tradition and most families used to decorate it at that time. As many other people in Europe, we get presents on 24 December  in the evening. Before the Velvet Revolution we didn't know anything about Santa. We had St Nicholas, but no Santa or Father Christmas. So who brings the presents? We were told that the presents were brought by " Jezisek" (Little baby Jesus). Unfortunately many young Czech families change the tradition to the western one and tell their children that the presents are brought by Santa/ Father Christmas.

So what about us, what do we tell Isabelle? Every second year we fly over to the Czech Republic for Christmas and celebrate it the Czech way, so she gets presents from "Jezisek" in the evening and then she gets a few presents in the morning from Santa. This year we are at home and my parents are staying with us, so we celebrate it the English way. She still gets a little present in the evening as a teaser from "Jezisek", but most presents she gets in the morning.

And how do you celebrate Christmas, when do you get presents and who brings them to you?

By the way, it took me more than an hour to untangle these beads!!!

What do we think of our new Quinny Zapp Extra?

We have had our new Quinny Zapp Extra for a few months now, and I think I can honestly say, we like it. The main reason why I wanted to review this buggy was to find out about the improvements and changes that have been made to the buggy.

Our previous Quinny Zapp was mostly used when travelling. We loved it for its lightness and compactness. I have never seen a buggy that would be more compact! I was able to fold and unfold it using just one hand and holding our baby Isabelle in the other hand ( like when going through the X-ray machines at the airports and travelling on my own without daddy). I am not saying it's the easiest task, but it can be done.

To compare the two buggies, I don't think the new Quinny Zapp Extra is as light and definitely not as compact as the Quinny Zapp as you have the baby seat which cannot be folded. Folding and unfolding works on the same principle, but I haven't managed to fold/unfold the new Quinny Zapp Extra with one hand as I was previously able to do with the standard Quinny Zapp.

I would say that both buggies are great, but for completely different reasons. If you are after something very light and compact, then go for the standard Quinny Zapp. You can also buy a basket which you can place underneath. The downside is, it doesn't recline, but my Isabelle had never had any problems with falling asleep in it. The new Quinny Zapp Extra is great as you can use it from birth, you can have it facing forward or rearward, it reclines and it can be used as a travel system with a suitable car seat.

There is one improvement I cannot forget, and that is the new rain cover. The rain cover we had for our Quinny Zapp was not that easy to attach, but the new version is much better. There is a flexible bit by feet which makes it much easier to place and also the velcro bits are much larger, which means the cover actually stays where it should be when raining!

So which one do we like better? It really depends on what you need the buggy for. We like the new Quinny Zapp Extra for younger babies and we love the standard Quinny Zapp for parents who travel a lot!

Love - The Gallery!

These are the hands of the two loves in  my life. I love them so much and cannot imagine my life without them!

And here you can see how much fun they can have together.

We have had a lot happening in the past week or so, unfortunately not all good things, and originally I thought I will miss the gallery for the first time ever, but at the end I managed not to and hope you will love my interpretation of " LOVE".

Don't forget to check out the other gallery posts!

I have a fabulous sponsor for CyberMummy 2011!

Less than 2 weeks ago I wrote a post about looking for a sponsor who could pay for my CyberMummy 2011 ticket as well as for the accommodation. I thought it would take a few weeks to find my sponsor, but guess what? Last week I got an e-mail from Cara, the founder and inventor of SnoozeShade, saying she would sponsor me. I cannot express how happy I was reading the e-mail, especially now with quite a few things going wrong in my life. I will have one less worry over this Christmas and just want to say a huge THANK YOU to Cara for sponsoring me.

Have you heard of SnoozeShade?

I reviewed the UK's first universal blackout buggy blind in April 2010, and honestly think it is a brilliant product which can help many parents to put their baby/toddler to sleep in their buggy when out and about as it helps to switch off the visual stimuli and blocks the sun shine!
  • made from a double layer of soft dark breathable fabric
  • elasticated top and sides with easy-to-attach velcro straps
  • "sneak-a-peek" zip to check on your baby
  • compact and fits easily under most rain covers
  • UPF50+
  • high visibility seams and straps

Going ice skating with penguins!

Last weekend we had a fabulous time at the Hyde Park Winter Wonderland and this Saturday we decided to go ice skating with penguins. Yes, you have heard correctly. If you have a chance to visit the new Westfield shopping centre at Shepperd's Bush, they have a great ice skating ring inside and you can also hire a little penguin for £5, which can help your child with the first steps on the ice. I have to say that we all were very excited about going, but me and daddy have never expected it would be such a physically demanding experience.

As we have our friend's son staying with us at the moment, we had one child each and I can tell you that a spinning class is nothing in a comparison to holding a child and a penguin, trying not to fall and ice skating at the same time! It's true, that we cheated a bit and the kids are not 4 years yet, but I don't think that a few months would make a difference. They seemed to love it, but me and daddy after the first 10 minutes were absolutely exhausted and you cannot imagine the backache we both had. Then daddy had a great idea, the kids stood on the penguins and we pushed them around. That saved the whole experience. We finished up spending almost an hour there and at the end it turned out to be a great fun not only for the kids, but also for us, parents!

VTech MobiGo Touch Handheld Learning System Review!

Last weekend I was reading one of my favourite blogs, Sticky Fingers  ( yes, it is the founder of the famous Gallery ), and thanks to that I came across a post looking for 2 guest toy reviewers. The lovely Tara has become a toyologist ( Toys R Us product reviewer) not long ago and has been so kind and wanted to share some toys with her fellow mummy bloggers. Me and Isabelle have been very lucky and have been selected as the guest reviewers of the fabulous VTech MobiGo Touch Handheld Learning System and now I am going to let you know what we think of it.

The door bell rang just 10 minutes before leaving for a school run on Wednesday morning and when I saw the parcel I knew exactly what was inside. I had only one question in my head:" Should I tell Isabelle or leave it  for after school?"  Well, I couldn't resist and told her that I have some fabulous toy for her to test. If you saw how she was ripping the packaging.... Anyway, of course she was very excited ( me too!) and when we opened the box she just looked very pleased and said: "mum, this is my computer!" and was running upstairs to show it to daddy. As we were rushing to school, I knew there would be a few tears as we had no time to play with it. She wanted to take it to school and show it to her friends...at the end we agreed that as soon as we got home after school, we would check it out!

As I was very busy, I asked daddy to read the instructions and get it ready for her when she returns home after school. When I picked her up, she was rushing home, which is very unusual for her, she is usually the last one leaving her classroom. When we got home, she ran upstairs and daddy took time explaining to her what to do. I was cooking lunch and just listening to them. They were having some good fun and Isabelle spent a while playing the easier options of some of the games.

Before testing it I thought it could be a bit too difficult for her as she is just 3.5. It is supposed to be suitable from 3-8 years, and I can definitely confirm it is suitable for her age group. Each game has two levels of difficulty, so obviously she plays the easier option, but I think she will be very soon ready for the more difficult version of some of the games. She really enjoyed playing the games and sometimes it takes me a while to get her attention when she is occupied with her new VTech MobiGo...

The game we got for a review was the Shrek Forever After:
  • bowling bonanza ( great for practising numbers and adding)
  • Ogre boogie
  • vroom broom ( upper/lower case letters)
  • cave adventures (spelling)
  • memory madness ( which picture is being hidden?)
  • counting fun
  • No weight! ( comparing what is heavier)
  • baby brain ( smaller than, bigger than and equal to)
Overall rating: we love it, one of the best toys she has ever had.

Dreamgenii® Twinkle Tog Review and Giveaway Competition!

Last week I reviewed the fabulous Dreamgenii® Pregnancy Pillow and today I will tell you what we think about the new Dreamgenii® Twinkle Tog, which I received for testing. As this wearable bedtime quilt comes in two sizes 1-2 and 2-3 years, my Isabelle couldn't test it, but we have a few lovely friends with younger babies and toddlers, and they helped me with testing as usually when it comes to testing & reviewing baby products.

I believe most children are or were probably using some kind of sleeping bags. Our Isabelle did and we  still have a little collection in the loft. She used to love sleeping in them, but there was one problem. As she was getting older and taller, the sleeping bags were also getting longer. When she was sleeping, she used to move a lot ( still does, but not as much as before), and her legs quite often got tangled in the extra fabric so we had to come at night and help her with that. When you look at the picture you can straight away realise, that the Twinkle Tog has two legs, which means the problem with tangling your child's feet will not happen. My friend was saying that her daughter loved sleeping in it and that she didn't want her old sleeping bag anymore.

It can also be great when travelling in the evening, as you can put your child in the twinkle tog in their car seat and if they fall asleep, you can just put them straight to bed. It doesn't have to be just when travelling in the car, I am sure if you fly somewhere, again this could make the sleeping on the plane much easier. So our verdict is: We love it!

    • for ages 1-2 and 2-3 years
    • fully machine washable
    • different fabric designs
    • its packaging includes tips on what nightwear to put on your child in under their Twinkle Tog
    • RRP£29.99 -  exclusively through Mothercare

Isabelle's First Nativity Play at School!

Last Friday morning was very emotional for me. The night before I woke up a few times as Isabelle was crying. In the morning I was tired and also very excited as we were invited to watch Isabelle participating in her first nativity play at her pre-school. If I tell you that i had tears on the way to school, you cannot imagine what happened when I entered the school hall and saw Isabelle. Tears were dropping on the floor as I was looking for my camera and flip... My husband was staring at me, with the look that says "what's wrong, what has happened?" I just told him I was OK, just too emotional because of Isabelle...as if he had never seen me like this before!

Anyway, it took me a few minutes to calm down and stop crying. I managed to tape all the songs on my flip and took a few pictures. It was fantastic, she made us so proud. I cannot imagine what I will be like next year, once she will be like the children from the reception class, saying a few words on her own...Well, I have a whole year to get ready for that, haven't I? Are you also very emotional when it comes to your kids or do you manage to control your emotions? I never used to be like that, but since having Isabelle....I cry and cry and cry!

      Sparkle - The Gallery!

I took this picture last Friday at Isabelle's first nativity play at school. Can you see the sparkles in their eyes? It was a very special moment for us and seeing Isabelle with her best friend from school so happy brings tears to my eyes again.

          Princess Castle Mirror review!

Last time we were visiting our friend in St Albans, we saw some great mirrors in her daughter's bedroom. When I got home I was checking them online and thanks to twitter we were so lucky and were asked to review this gorgeous Princess Castle mirror

I chose this mirror as Isabelle loves princesses and castles. We put it on a wall under her bed, where she plays very often with her dolls' house and her other toys. Isabelle was helping me with placing the stickers on the back of the mirror and then directing me where exactly to put it. It's very easy to put on  a wall and it also had a protective film so that the mirror wouldn't get scratched when being posted or placed on the wall. It is made from 3mm thick acrylic and is shatter-proof, lightweight, strong and therefore safer than ordinary glass mirrors.
          • Measuring 30cm x 21cm
          • RRP £19.95
          • features a wavy base, five turrets topped with pink roof detail and an engraved love heart design
They have some great mirrors for boys and girls, much safer than normal mirrors and can be a great room wall decoration ( letters, dinosaurs, ballerinas, butterflies ). Check their website, this could be a great Christmas present for your children!

          Fitness Tuesday - Week 21!

Last week I told you about my first Zamba class, which wasn't a success and so I decided I will just stick to my favourite spinning classes and running. Because of the weather I haven't been running for at least 2 weeks now, so I think I will have to start going to the gym, as I don't think it will be any warmer and running in freezing and icy conditions is not very tempting for me. Keep your fingers crossed and let me know how your Fitness Tuesday goes ;)

As every week I suggest doing the following exercises every day until next Tuesday. It will not take you long, you don't have to do them all at once. If you feel comfortable doing more, do it, if you feel you might need to do less, don't worry, do less this week and do more the week after. I am not a fitness instructor, I am here to encourage you to do some exercises to get fitter and hope you will be there for me too.

I suggest doing the following for the next week:
          • 60 sit ups (towards both knees)
          • 60 sit ups (touching your left knee)
          • 60 sit ups (touching your right knee)
          • 19 push ups
          • skipping for 90 seconds (roughly 1 turn per second)

How did you do last week and how do you feel about it? What exercises have you done?

          GLTC Spinning Desk Organiser Review!

As Isabelle is getting older, she has more and more toys but also more and more stationary products. We have moved most of her toys in her bedroom a while ago, but as she mostly draws, paint, cuts and creates downstairs with me, we keep it all in a box next to her little table. This means when she looks for things she usually empties the box and then complains she has to tidy it away. I was delighted to be sent the GLTC Spinning Desk Organiser, a great solution to put all her stationary things away in a beautiful way.

And I wasn't mistaken. If you have bought from GLTC before, you know their products are of very high quality and this is no exempt. It is made of wood, with white glossy finish and it spins around, so you can easily reach all the little compartments it has. And there are many! Isabelle loved opening and closing the little drawers and putting her things inside. What is also great, that you can name each section to remind you what belongs there. Well, we have not done that yet, as Isabelle has only recently started learning letters and numbers, but I still think it's a great idea.
          • Measures 20cmH x 37cmW
          • Exclusive to GLTC
          • RRP £40.00

Don't forget you can still use the special 15% GLTC discount code, which GLTC have exclusively provided for All Baby Advice readers! ( valid until 19 December)

            Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park!

Last Saturday we decided to visit the famous Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park and I can tell you, it was fantastic! We went with Isabelle's aunties and we all enjoyed walking through the crowds, admiring the Christmas markets and smelling delicious German sausages...also drinking plenty of mulled wine ( not Isabelle, of course). We bought a few coupons, and Isabelle chose a few things she wanted to go on. Luckily I didn't have to go on all these with her, her aunties went instead. We spent at least 4 hours there and would definitely stay even longer, but it was getting too cold and Isabelle was exhausted. the train journey wasn't too bad, so all in all we had a beautiful afternoon and we have agreed that this will become our new Christmas tradition. If you haven't been, you should definitely check it out, it's better to come at about 3 - 4 pm, when it's getting darker, so that you can admire the beautiful lights and get the whole Christmas atmosphere! Also, the entry is free ;)

New Baby Lotion from Halos N Horns - Review & Giveaway!

This is not the first time I will be reviewing Halos N Horns products, we love them and when I was approached to review some new samples I was very happy to say yes. This time they have come up with a new Halos N Horns moisturising baby lotion and Halos N Horns gentle bubble bath & body wash, which both smell divine! Both products are hypoallergenic and very kind to eyes, we can definitely confirm that. When Isabelle washes her hair, shampoo very often gets into her eyes, and there were no tears after using this new bath & body wash. As always there are no: SLS, Phthalates, MIT, Parabens, Triclosan, Propylene glycol or SLEC! You can buy them exclusively at Boots.

Baking Czech Xmas cookies with Isabelle for the first time!

Very excited just before putting all the ingrediences in the bowl!

Mixing everything together, the best fun ever!

Ups, the dough is stuck on my fingers!

Mixing icing sugar and vannila scented sugar, not much stayed in the bowl, as you can see!

That's how the crescents should look just before being put in the oven!
