New Little Home at John Lewis!

Last Thursday we were invited to have a little tour of the new Little Home at John Lewis on the 3rd floor of the Oxford Street branch in  London. We love shopping at John Lewis and I honestly think their products are always of a very high quality and also the customer service is great. Once we bought a video camera and then decided to return it ( after unwrapping and trying it out!) a few days later without any problems. Anyway, as the event was revealing the new children's products,  I took my Isabelle along, as I thought she could be giving her honest opinion as well as us mummy bloggers.

We got there a bit earlier, and Jonny (John Lewis PR & communication manager) offered us to have some drinks while waiting for the others. After a short chat we went for the tour. Isabelle was very excited especially about the pink parts of the tour and I can tell you that she felt like at home, slowly destroying the display... but they were so nice and didn't mind ( at least they said so).

You can find there all you need for your children's bedrooms from furniture, storage, lighting, to bedding, towels, blinds, curtains, fabric. I was mostly impressed by the fabrics and motives for boys to be honest, as I don't think there is a huge selection out here. So if you have  a little boy, hurry and check it out, I am sure you will not be disappointed. Of course having a girl at home myself, there were a few pink thinks my eyes landed on and will be on her birthday list. One of these was this gorgeous Little Juliet chair in pink. Just look at it!

Gorgeous Little Juliet Chair in pink

I really love the fantastic Ahoy There range for boys and girls
(who are not obsessed with pink like my Isabelle...)

We were given this cute 3D cushion

On Isabelle's birthday list, she didn't want to leave without it,
but I bribed her with some chocolate
Most of the time Isabelle spent hiding soft toys
in this cute treasure chest!

A very cute wooden tea set, also on her birthday list

Pastel cookie cube from JL girls baking range,
but they also have blue/green range for boys!

It was also nice to see Maria from MummysBusyWorld again and to finally meet and talk to Gigi from MumsRock and Natalie from Bambino Goodies.

Sleeping Beauty - QuinnyCasters Assignment 4!

We have had our fantastic Quinny Zapp Extra for almost 4 months now, and as every month we were given an assignment to complete. We weren't lucky enough to win any prizes yet, but we are happy we have our beautiful pushchair and hope that maybe this month we will be a bit more lucky! So the assignment for this month was to take a picture or video of our children being sleeping beauties. Just look at this sleeping beauty, which prince wouldn't like to kiss her and break the spell?

"Find me a gift" for the Valentine's day - review & giveaway!

Last week I was sent two Valentine day's gifts for a review, a heart blanket and a Message in a bottle. As you can see from the above picture, the first one has already been used and not only by me. It's a sleeved blanket, which has a pocket at the front where you can keep your remote control, just relax and watch your favourite movie. As Isabelle wanted to test it with me we had it the other way round. The original idea is to have it over you as a blanket, but as you have sleeves you can do whatever you need without your hands getting cold. Great idea also when reading a book or writing blog posts on your sofa. So we give it our thumbs up!

If you are after something a bit different, then you will love the message in a bottle. You can write your very own message (up to 2000 characters) or maybe a poem for your loved one? It comes really nicely packed with the sand, a few shells and a cardboard treasure box.

I'm glad I was able to help - CyberMummy 2011!

A few weeks ago, just after I secured my own CyberMummy 2011 sponsorship, I was offered another opportunity to get sponsored. I remember how difficult it was for me to get sponsored last year as it took me a few months to find a sponsor. As a stay at home mum, not getting any income I wasn't able to afford paying for the ticket by myself, but at the end I managed to get sponsored by Seven Seas Femibion. This year I got sponsored by SnoozeShade.

When Organix offered sponsoring me, I mentioned to them there were many mummy bloggers still looking for a sponsor and they agreed to sponsor someone else instead. I wrote a post, Still Looking for a CyberMummy 2011 sponsor?, informing about this opportunity and quite a few mummy bloggers linked their blogs showing their interest.

I am sure that many of you would like to know who got sponsored by Organix, so.... I am going to reveal that the mummy blogger who got sponsored by Organix is:

Congratulations, I'm very happy I was able to help! See you at CyberMummy 2011!

Fundraising for the London Marathon!

When you raise money for a charity event, you want to make sure people will think that the money they donate will be save. I was recommended Just Giving by one of my friends, and as you know, the word of mouth is the best advertising you can get. Not only there are great online fundraising tips on their website and blog, but also their iPhone and Facebook apps, which make things quick and easy! I can definitely confirm that creating my fundraising page was a piece of cake, took a few moments only and am sure you will appreciate all the features you can use when creating your page.

I love seeing my fundraising progress so I have installed a widget which shows how much money I have raised and how much is left till I reach the target. As you can see, there were some very generous people who have supported me and Great Ormond Street Charity so far, but I still need to raise more. It's for the greatest cause in the world, so please support me by donating, every little helps. Thank you.

Peter Rabbit Baby Books review and giveaway competition!

I don't think I have to introduce Peter Rabbit to you, as it seems to be one of the most popular characters from Beatrix Potter's beautifully illustrated books. I think many of you will be pleased with the new baby book range Frederick Warne have created, still based on Beatrix Potter's illustrations, but also created so that our little ones can enjoy playing with them.

The set consists of a Peter Rabbit cloth book, a buggy book, a finger puppet book and a peekaboo book. The cloth book is presented in a nice box, so could be a wonderful gift for a newborn. As you would probably expect, it is very soft and also hand washable, which many mums will appreciate. Your baby will admire not only the beautiful  pictures but will also benefit from touching and feeling different textures and paying attention to the scrunchy sounds made by squeezing some of the pages. And who wouldn't love the buggy book, which can easily be attached to your pram? The peekaboo book is going to provide lots of fun for your child when exploring all the flaps and touch-and-feels. The finger puppet book is my favourite as I remember how Isabelle loved her puppet books and we spent a lot of time playing with these. To find out all the information or to buy, visit, www.peterrabbit.com/baby © Frederick Warne & Co., 2010.

Our love for shoes!

I have always known I will be writing this post, but to be honest, I thought it would be when Isabelle is a bit older. I have always loved shoes and am not telling you how many pairs I own...It's also true that I hate saying goodbye to my old shoes which ends up in having quite a few pairs which haven't been worn in years....It is my little obsession, but I know that many of you will understand. You are either a shoe person or a handbag person, that's what I believe! Well, now you know I am a shoe person.

Two weeks ago Isabelle's school had some clothes & shoes charity collection, so I decided it was time to say goodbye to a few pair of shoes which I love, bought while living in sunny Sydney and haven't worn since coming back to London. There were 8 pairs of high heel shoes that I put in a black bin bag and had to say goodbye to, but for a great cause! Daddy couldn't believe when I also sorted out my wardrobe and finished up with 2 huge black bin bags full of clothes. He had to help me with carrying these to Isabelle's school. I felt a bit sad about the shoes, but on the other hand I knew that I haven't worn them even once in the past 5 years...so what is the chance I would be wearing them again?
Daddy's reaction to this was: "well done, now you have some space for some new shoes, don't you?" And it didn't take me so long and I have bought these fabulous boots when going to London. It's obvious that it isn't only me, but my Isabelle also loves her shoes and now also " MY" shoes (the era of wearing mummy's shoes has just started!). Some of you will probably say  this isn't the greatest example for my daughter, but I cannot help it as I really love shoes!

The Humf App reviewed!

We might be one of the few not owning an iPhone, but we are one of the few owning the new iPad, which daddy brought back from his business trip to New York. We love using it, especially for watching movies and looking at photos. There is one member of our family who loves touching it and playing around with it. Yes, you are absolutely right, it's our darling Isabelle. I have been trying to keep her away from playing computer games until recently and even now it doesn't happen very often. I want her to be able to use a computer as she does it at school anyway, but don't want her to spend too much time on it. When I was asked to review this iPod/iPad application, I checked if that's something that my Isabelle can also learn something from.

It is based on the TV show on Nick Jr, and has been designed specifically for pre-school children to pick up and play by themselves. It includes a selection of 9 mini-games, with a variety of activities inspired by the hit TV show. The Humf App is available for £1.79 from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/humf/id409314194?mt=8.

Activities include:

Furry Thing – Combine different body parts and create new and familiar furry things.

Painting – Help Wallace paint amazing and colourful pictures.

Tidy Up – Help Humf clean his room by matching the toys to their correctly coloured boxes.

Shadows – Different shapes cast different shadows. Children can try and match them correctly.

Balloons – Help Loon fill the balloons with air, count them then have fun popping them with Humf.

Dot-To-Dot – Join the dots to reveal different characters from the TV show.

Music – Children can have fun making music with different instruments.

Bath Time – Use the water pistol to shoot bubbles at the toys.

Racing – Control the car by tilting the device in different directions.

And what did we think? Most of the activities were quite easy for Isabelle to follow and she really enjoyed playing them, especially the painting, bath time and racing (even though she didn't manage to avaid crashing into the block most of the time). I think the shadows activity was a bit more difficult for her, but I am sure as she will be playing with it she will fing her way how to understand it. I liked blowing up the balloons and popping them. All in all, I think oit is suitable fro her age group and for £1.79, it's a bargain!

THE DISNEY 50 AT BFI SOUTHBANK THROUGHOUT JANUARY - MARCH!

We are big Disney fans and being invited to see one of the 50 movies that will be included is very exciting. One of our old time favourites is Snow White ( by the way showing in January), but I thought we should go and watch a movie Isabelle hasn't seen yet. We will be watching the famous Dumbo on Sat 12 February, but there are 49 other movies you can choose from, there is something for everyone! Check out the official BFI website for all the information or to book your tickets. They also announced two new ticket offers for Disney fans, the Disney 50 Pass and Family ticket, to make catching all of the Disney 50 much easier.

Our choice, watch this space for my review!

NEVER LET ME GO - Movie review!

I have to admit I didn't know much about the movie before going ( I couldn't even remember the title when one of my friends was asking), but after reading the production notes just before the screening, I got really excited.

I think the movie was brilliant, very moving and realistic at the same time. I think all the three main actors did a great job and am sure that there were many tears at the end of the movie, at least I cried a lot. I would love to read the book as well, just to see if it was as good as the film. All in all, a great movie, that talks about love and friendship honestly and openly. It shows the bright and the dark sides of these, and  reveals how differently people can deal with their devastating fate. I also think that what was happening at Hailsham was really scary as that could have really be happening then, now or in the future...

UK release : 11 February 2011
Director: Mark Romanek
Cast: Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield, Charlotte Rampling

Children - The Gallery!

 3.5 years old

2 years old

1 year old

A few days old

12 weeks pregnant with Isabelle

I cannot believe our darling Isabelle will be turning 4 in April. I still remember holding her in my hands for the first time, breastfeeding her, then weaning her, changing her nappies, singing to her and cuddling and kissing her all the time. I still do that, I mean the kissing and cuddling. She is the love of our lives and I cannot imagine my life without her. Children are definitely the reason to live for! I just wish I could slow the time down a bit so that she stays little for a bit longer!

Fitness Tuesday - Week 27!

If you follow me on twitter (@Kahanka) you might know that I take the training very seriously and really follow my personal training plan by Karen from fullpotential.co.uk. Meeting her and others from the team which is helping us with getting ready for this big event was fantastic. Also knowing that Maria and Emma are doing it with me really helps.
Me, Maria and Emma

 Maria, me, Karen and Emma

Originally I was supposed to run my 90 minutes long run on Sunday, but after the training day in London, I felt a bit more tired than expected, also my right knee was aching  since Saturday afternoon and so I decided to go swimming with Isabelle and daddy. While they were having fun in the children pool, I was swimming in the fast lane, and managed to swim 50 laps in 35 minutes. I was quite happy with the result, especially on a Sunday morning, when it's very busy and there are just too many people in the pool.
Anyway, I was feeling much better on Monday morning, but I could still feel the pain in my right knee. After about 80 minutes of running outside I had to stop as the pain in my right knee was getting worse and worse. I power- walked for the last 10 minutes, and was feeling a bit angry with myself that I wasn't able to run the whole 90 mins because of the knee...Let's hope that a one day rest will help me and that the pain will go away!

This is what I managed to do last week:

Tuesday: 3 x 6 mins running at threshold with 2 mins jog recovery between efforts
Wednesday: 45 mins spinning class
Thursday: Rest
Friday: 45 mins steady effort run outside
Saturday: NPL Training Day in London ( threshold running)
Sunday: 35 mins swimming ( breast stroke, 50 laps, 25m pool)
Monday: Long run 80 mins outside + 10 power-walking

Just a little reminder that you could support me (Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity) by sponsoring me. THANK YOU!
Thank you to my sponsor https://www.nestle-purelife.co.uk and also Kiddicare for donating
an amazing amount of £500!

And now I am all excited about hearing your news!!!

As every week I suggest doing the following exercises every day until next Tuesday. It will not take you long, you don't have to do them all at once. If you feel comfortable doing more, do it, if you feel you might need to do less, don't worry, do less this week and do more the week after. I am not a fitness instructor, I am here to encourage you to do some exercises to get fitter and hope you will be there for me too. And don't forget to add our Fitness Tuesday badge to your blog ;)))

I suggest doing the following for the next week:
  • 61 sit ups (towards both knees)
  • 61 sit ups (touching your left knee)
  • 61 sit ups (touching your right knee)
  • 20 push ups
  • skipping for 95 seconds (roughly 1 turn per second)

How did you do last week and how do you feel about it? What exercises have you done?

I know that many people try to loose some weight or get back into shape after Christmas, so take it easy, these numbers are based on starting 27  weeks ago, if you need some help, just leave me a comment ;))) Remember we all are doing it together!

My First Silent Sunday!

Silent Sunday

Friday, 21 January 2011

You just have to believe!

Exactly a week ago I was quite stressed as on Thursday night I was adding a CyberMummy sponsorship banner to my website, and I managed to delete some code and the whole template was all over the place. I worked late, it was almost midnight and I just didn't feel like spending another couple of hours finding out what went wrong. I know you are going to ask the question, so I am going to save you asking it and answer it straight away. No, I didn't back it up before making any changes to the template....That will teach me! As I mostly spend my time blogging and not on the website, I completely forgot. It's as simple as that! Then my good friend from Prague came for a few days, so I just tried not to think about it and left it. It was at the back of my mind, but I thought I would manage to fix it after her visit.

The next day in the afternoon daddy told me he wasn't able to look after our darling daughter the following Monday as he had a very important meeting. I had booked a hot stone massage through Groupon deals with Divine beauty and another catastrophic scenario followed. You can read about it here and don't forget to check the comments to find out the result!

But it wasn't the end of it. Last Saturday it was daddy's birthday. We had a wonderful day planned. It all started well with our family bike trip to nearby Watford (10 miles). When we came back we were exhausted and hungry. As we wanted to stay locally, we just went to our local Ask pizza restaurant in Northwood. We go there quite often as Isabelle loves their pasta, and to be honest me and daddy like it there too. But of course something had to happen on daddy's birthday, as bad things come in threes , don't they?
At 2.15 we ordered our starters and mains. After about 15 minutes we got our starters. 15 minutes after finishing our starters we "were told" that there was no sauce for my main dish, so I was advised to choose another meal. There was no word of apology, and when I asked if my husband's and my daughter's meals were ready, his response was, that "they haven't started them yet, as they always wait for customers to finish their starters before starting the mains"....a bit strange, but how come the chef didn't know he had no sauce when he saw our order (45 minutes after ordering  our meals)?

This can happen, but we were  mainly disappointed that the manager didn't really apologise and didn't compensate us for not having our meal. We didn't have to pay for mains, which we didn't have anyway, and the manager gave us 20% off what we ate and drunk. What a generosity!
Our afternoon was ruined as we had no lunch, a hungry 3,5 year old daughter and we were disappointed the way we were treated by the manager... on my husband's birthday! I am not sure if we ever go there again!

Despite all the bad things happening, I tried to stay positive and you know what, thanks to you my lovely blog readers and your comments I managed to get a refund from Groupon ( also added another £20 in my account for future use). Last night I spent a few hours replying to all my e-mails and then I thought I would check my website code, maybe I could find out what went wrong. Guess what, I found a tiny bit of code missing, a closing bracket!!! And it worked! It's fine now, I went to bed laughing and was thinking that such a tiny piece of code missing completely ruined a few days in my life...it wasn't worth it, but I treat it as my baby, as I created the website from scratch, learning the code, it took me 6 months! Anyway, staying positive proves to be working for me, so now I am just waiting for the Ask pizza to get back to me with some kind of apology. What do you think, will they reply? I really hope so!

Hands First Power Scrub & Moisturiser Review!

I cannot say I am very good at gardening, but I love planting new plants with Isabelle and then watching them growing and blossoming. As the past few days have been much warmer, I decided to do some clean-up in the garden and also I wanted to test the sample of the new hands first power scrub & moisturiser which I was sent a few days ago.

I usually wear gloves when working in the garden, but sometimes they get wet and very dirty, so I have to take them off. After doing my clean-up in the garden, my hands were quite muddy.  I managed to wash off most of the dirt just using some soap, but then when I used the power scrub, I got rid off all the dirt that was left on my hands and behind my nails. It worked really well, smelled nice and left my hands soft and moisturised, not dry at all. It will be very useful once the spring comes here and you should check it out too!

    Product features:
    • containing natural pumice and wall nut shell for deep-down cleaning
    • natural blue cypress oil and panthenol for skin conditioning
    • natural anti-bacterial grapefruit seed extract
    • available from www.handsfirst.co.uk

    Mother Nature - The Gallery!

When I found out the theme for this week, I knew straight away which pictures to share with you. All of these photos are from our romantic holiday in Barbados. I took hundreds of pictures there which could be used for this week's gallery, but these were somehow standing out  for me. I took them on a late afternoon, just before a storm and you can also see the beautiful colours of  the sun set. It was the last night before we headed back to London and these photos will always remind me of such a great romantic holiday we had there!

Don't forget to check out the other gallery posts!

    Fitness Tuesday - Week 26!

How did my second week of the training for the London Marathon go? I would say pretty well, according to the plan. It's true that I am exhausted and hungry all the time. This means I try to go to bed earlier and eat more often, smaller portions and I have really focused on what I eat.

I am really looking forward to our NPL training day in London this Saturday, as I will see some of my fellow mummy bloggers who run this marathon as well and we will be given some advice on running techniques, trainers and nutrition.

This is what I managed to do last week:

Tuesday: 3 x 5 mins running at threshold with 2 mins jog recovery between efforts
    Wednesday: 45 mins spinning class
    Thursday: Rest
Friday: 45 mins steady effort run outside
Saturday: Steady bike ride (10 miles)
Sunday: Long run 75 mins outside
Monday: 30 minutes body exercises (focus on legs + core exercises)

I know that many people try to loose some weight or get back into shape after Christmas, so take it easy, these numbers are based on starting 26  weeks ago, if you need some help, just leave me a comment ;))) Remember we all are doing it together!
