Peppa Pig Theme Park Fun on DS - Review!

Last Saturday we had a chance to visit the new Peppa Pig World as one of the first people and before its official opening to public on 9th April 2011. We had a fantastic time there, and am sure we will be back in the future. Check it out, as this is a must for Peppa Pig lovers!

Isabelle was also sent the new Peppa Pig Theme Park Fun for a review, and as she is getting the DSi for her 4th birthday soon, she tested it at of the gift shops which has game-pods. As she has never used it before, she was really excited about it and loved using it, and was asking if we could buy it for her.

So what are the games about? Peppa Pig and her family are going on a big day out, to the Peppa Pig theme park, and they need to get everything ready for this big day. Then the family set out on their journey, but things don't seem to be going according to the plan, and there are many games to help them overcome the problerms. There are 5 games which help them get to the park and they are played in sequence, and each game must be completed in order to move onto the next game.  After completing the 5 games you can start many more games at the theme park. One of the games our daughter played was i-spy, Isabelle's favourite, which she and her friend played  in our car on our way to the park last Saturday morning. Isabelle loved playing the games on the DS and as we couldn't spend too much time playing it in the shop, I am sure she will be delighted to see that one of her birthday pressents is one of these sets of games and her own DSi.

Mum, why is it not dark anymore when I go to bed?

With the clock going forward, we have had our darling Isabelle asking this question a few times. The first night when she went to bed, she was sooo tired, she didn't even realise. On Monday night, she was having her bath, and it just seemed strange to her to have a bath, when it was not dark outside. I told her all about the time change, that we will have summer soon, and we need more light in the evenings as it is nice to stay outside longer. She was nodding her head, but am not sure if she really understood. The same scenario happened last two nights. I explained the same, but she just looked puzzled and was kind of protesting, that she shouldn't be going to bed yet, as the sun was out, and it wasn't dark yet. I was thinking about letting her go to bed later, but am sure that this wouldn't mean getting up also later in the morning...as we have tried that, and she needs to have a  good night's sleep...as well as her parents.

What do you tell your children, how do you explain the time change? Do you think they understand that?

      The Gallery - Hair!

This week's gallery theme is hair. I went for one of Isabelle's pictures, which I really love. We struggle with brushing her beautiful hair, and usually do it only when it's wet and after using tons of hair conditioner and detangling spray. She doesn't like her hair, she says she wants hair like mummy. That is so sweet, but I am sure, that one day, she will be love her hair. I wish my hair was like hers. When I was about 16 I had it permed...shame I don't have some photos here, you would have a good laugh. Anyway, would you believe she has never had a haircut?

Don't forget to check out the other gallery posts!

      Learning Through Play!

Learning through play is very important. I am a teacher myself, and I used to teach children of many different age groups and also adults, and implementing games and playing into studying or learning has always been very successful with everyone.

Isabelle is not an exception, she also loves learning through play, and I love watching her improving her skills while playing. The above picture is just an example of how you can play and learn at the same time. Isabelle got this easel just before Christmas, and she has been using it every day since then. She loves practising letters and numbers as you can see, but she also very often uses it when painting some pictures. We often play pretend school games,  where I am a student and she is a teacher, or the other way round. Check out some more pictures of Isabelle while playing and learning.

Isabelle found out how to make pink, while mixing red and white paint together. Then she was experiencing with other colours. A great way how to learn about colours.

       Our family

Isabelle has also improved when drawing people and faces.
This is a picture of daddy ;)

Just got back home from a bike ride, not wasting anytime,
      straight away practising number 3!

Change Your Meat, Not Your Menu!

It's time for lunch and today I will be sharing a fantastic turkey recipe from Marco Pierre White with you. I don't think I have to introduce this world- class chef to you, but am going to tell you something about his latest campaign encouraging using turkey. He has recently become the new turkey ambassador of the new Bernard Matthews Farms campaign, as he believes this meat is the king of birds and should be eaten much more often, not only at Christmas.
From following my blog, you know I have been training for the London Marathon, and eating healthy food is definitely what I have been focusing on a lot in the past few months. I believe eating turkey is great as it is less fatty than other meats and also has great flavour. Of course, you need to know how to cook it, but there are so many great recipes, and some of them are very easy and ready in just a few minutes. Why don't you swap your minced beef for minced turkey and try the following recipe?

      Turkey Meatballs with Tomato Sauce

      Serves 4
      Ingredients

      700g/1lb 9oz turkey thigh mince

      2 tbsp fresh white breadcrumbs

      2 eggs, beaten

Salt and fresh ground black pepper

      3 tbsp olive oil

      1 onion, chopped

      1 clove garlic, crushed

      2 x 400g/14oz cans chopped tomatoes

      Fresh parsley sprigs to garnish
      Method

      1. Place the turkey mince in a large bowl. Mix in the breadcrumbs, eggs and season well with salt and pepper. Divide the mixture into 16 and form into meatballs using wetted hands. Allow the meatballs to rest for 20 minutes in a cool place.

      2. Heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil in a large saucepan. Add the onion and garlic, cover and allow to sweat for 10 minutes over a gentle heat until softened, stirring occasionally.

      3. Add the tomatoes, cover and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Place the sauce in a food blender and process until smooth. Return to the saucepan, reheat and season to taste.

      4. Heat the remaining oil in a large frying pan. Add the meatballs and fry until lightly browned all over. Add the meatballs to the sauce and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes.

      5. Serve the meatballs with rice and garnish with sprigs of parsley.

Why don't you share your turkey recipes with us?

Just comment on this post including a link to your post.

Last few weeks before the London Marathon - Fitness Tuesday - Week 36!

As many of you know, I will be running/power-walking the London Marathon in just a few weeks, and have to say a big thank you to Nestle Pure Life for providing me with my personal trainer, Karen, who has been fantastic. She has been a great support to me through my not easy journey to this great event, and has helped me with implementing aqua jogging and swimming into my training when I wasn't able to run because of my injured knee. You can check  me and some other runners out on their website, and also show your support by commenting there.

This is what I managed to do last week:

Tuesday:  10 mins power-walk, 5x5 mins running at threshold pace, 2 mins recovery in between, 10 mins power-walk
      Wednesday: 70 mins power-walk/run at the gym ( 5 minutes running , 2 minutes power-walking
      Thursday: REST
      Friday: 1 hour run/power-walk (10mins run, 2minspower-walk)
      Saturday: REST
      Sunday: 3 hours run/power-walk (10 mins power-walk, then altering 20mins run and 2 mins power-walk )
      Monday: Knee exercises

Just a little reminder that you could support me (Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity) by sponsoring me
      THANK YOU!

      Fitness Tuesday
I would like to hear some tips from you guys. Which exercises do you  really like doing at home and which ones do you struggle with a bit more? Are there any fitness tips that could be helpful to other mums reading our Fitness Tuesday? If you would like to get some advice on what exercises you could be doing at home, check out  my previous Fitness Tuesday posts or leave me a comment.

      My fitness tip:
Don't run your long runs in brand new trainers,
wear your trainers around your house and for short runs at the gym first.
This should help to avoid blisters!

Have you added our Fitness Tuesday badge to your blog?
      Thank you ;)

Hotel Chocolate Giveaway - The Nibblatron Easter Eggsposé Egg!

We are just a few weeks away from Easter and shops are full of Easter eggs, but not all of them are like the one I was sent. I was very lucky and received the Nibblatron Easter Eggsposé Egg from Hotel Chocolat for a review and also one to give away.

As the last Hotel Chocolat present was for me, I decided to leave this for daddy, as he loves milk chocolate and am sure he will love consuming the little robots while playing some games on his PlayStation 3. Not only am sure the chocolate is of the highest quality, but the presentation is gorgeous and there is always a card included, where you can write your little message. I cannot wait to give it to daddy, and will just hope he will share it with me and Isabelle.

        The Finish QuantuMatic Photoshoot!

As being one of the 12 Finish QuantuMatic jurors, I had a photo taken for the microwebsite, where you will soon be able to read more about all the judges and their journeys with this fantastic product. At the end I went for the "Saturday breakfast" category, which meant plenty of dirty dishes, coffee pots, greasy frying pans, eggy spatulas.

As daddy was at home, we agreed on a family photoshoot of a Saturday breakfast on a Monday afternoon. This wasn't our first photoshoot, but the first one done at home. Isabelle was getting a bit bored towards the end, but all in all it went quite well. This experience just showed me, we will not be trying to get her into modelling, as I was mentioning a few weeks ago.

Anyway, after the shoot, there were so many dirty dishes, we had to divide them into two dishwashers cycles, as I didn't want to over-fill it. When I saw the dried egg on the frying pan, or burnt baked beans sauce on the side of one of the pots, I was tempted to pour some water inside and leave it, but then I decided it would be to test if Finish QuantuMatic could deal with that.
I put the dishwasher on, and we went for a walk. When we got back, I opened the dishwasher and wasn't really surprised. I expected the dishes would be all clean and sparkly, so yes, it worked even on the dried eggs and burnt baked beans sauce. Well done to Finish QuantuMatic!

Do you use blackout blinds, you know the ones that keep your child in bed a bit later?

This time of the year always reminds me of one thing, blackout blinds. Do you know why? Every year our darling Isabelle starts getting up much earlier than what her tired parents are used to. For the rest of the year she wakes up at about 7.30, and in winter even later than that. With the spring coming, the days getting longer, our darling just seems to be getting earlier and earlier every day. As we are not used to it, we suffer for a few weeks, then the time changes and she is fine again. But the few weeks every year, I keep on thinking of getting blackout blinds. Most of my friends have them in their childrens' rooms, and they seem to work. But before I even start looking for some, Isabelle goes back to getting up a bit later thanks to the time change.

When you say blackout blinds, black colour comes automatically on my mind, and that's maybe why I have never looked into buying any. But did you know, they don't have to be black? Actually, after browsing the Internet, I would say that hardly any are black, as not many people would probably want to have black blinds in their rooms. I have come across some gorgeous blackout blinds at the Tuiss website. They have a great choice of colours, and also my favourite green shade, they call it Twilight Citronella, which would look just gorgeous in our bedroom. Also, you can ask them to send you  a free sample, which I think is great as you can see the exact colour and texture and decide straight in your bedroom if that's the colour you are after.

But they don't have only blackout blinds. I was amazed at how many different types of  blinds there are. For example, have you ever heard of energy saving blinds? I haven't, and they exist. Who wouldn't want to save some energy and some money as well. And again they come in  many different colours and are made to measure!

Peppa Pig World - It is real!

We had a very busy Saturday, as we were invited to check out the new Peppa Pig world at Paultons Park. I was given a family ticket, so we also took one of Isabelle's very good friends. her mummy was stressing how great it was to go and also that we would be one of the first people to see this fantastic new park. So she had to explain why i got the tickets, and it was quite funny to hear her saying " mummy blogger" and looking a bit puzzled. Anyway, the journey from London started all well, the girls were chatting at the back of our car and playing some games. Then we stopped for  a little toilet break, and i bought the girls some innocent juices. As they are so yummy, it took them no time to finish them and we continued on our journey. After about 15 minutes they started getting bored, so clever me, gave them something to read... Some of you might know what happened next. Well, Isabelle's friend was sick....all over herself, the car seat, etc...Luckily, I remembered my friend saying her daughter sometimes was sick in their car, and I packed extra clothes for both girls. I cleaned everything, and changed her clothes. It didn't spoil the fun, she felt much better afterwards, and in just about 20 minutes we arrived at the Paultons Park.

It was very busy already, but as it was very clearly labelled and well organised, we got our press passes and off we went to explore the Peppa Pig World. Both girls were running around, and you could see how happy they were. Isabelle had her moment again, when there was a huge Peppa Pig and George taking pictures with other children...She again strated crying and didn't want to meet them. We had to take her away. We spent a lot of time at the Mr Potato playground, and the girls wanted to take their clothes and run around at the Muddy Puddles splash bit, but we didn't have their swimming costumes, so we treated them to a ride on the Windy Castle instead. There are so many rides and things to do, we spend almost 5 hours there. My favourite was the George's Dinosaur Adventure and the girls really loves the Daddy Pig's Car Ride.

We loved it so much, that I am sure we will be back in summer,  and well-prepared for the splash bit. I took quite a  few pictures and a short video with my clip, so you can have a little preview of what  we did. Enjoy!

        I am scared!

There are just a few days left before finding out if Isabelle got her space at the school she has been going to since last September.  The last few days living in not knowing, and thinking about what if she did and what if she didn't...Last year I was going through this when she didn't get in the school in the first round. Luckily she did in the continuing interest round. Will she and us be as lucky this time?

I have to believe. It is such a great school, but most importantly, she loves it there, got used to the teachers and has made some very good friends. I really cannot imagine telling her she wouldn't be going there again after the summer holiday.  How could she possibly understand that? I am staying optimistic, and believe that she will get in. Last few moths have been very difficult for our family, and a few things have changed, but thanks to believing I didn't give up my London Marathon training, and as you might know, have been doing quite well lately. Staying optimistic and believing in yourselves is usually much more important than we can imagine!

        Are You Into Designer Furniture?

I love furniture and love shopping for furniture. When we bought our house a few years ago, and were looking for some furniture, our budget was tight, and it was quite hard to find something modern, of good quality and not that expensive. Also it wasn't easy to agree on what me and my husband both liked. At the end we had to kind of compromise and also take having  a baby into consideration.

If you had asked me a few years ago, when we lived in Sydney, what kind of furniture I would have liked to have in my house, I would have definitely mentioned something like the AREAZ  designer furniture. Why? Because at that time I was living a life of a single woman, sharing a gorgeous luxurious flat with  her  boyfriend, near the famous Darling Harbour. It was a very trendy area, and we loved living there. It was expensive, and expensive designer furniture was just part of that lifestyle. I loved being surrounded by gorgeous pieces of furniture, who wouldn't?

Things have changed. Moving back to London has completely changed our lives. We got married and have our wonderful daughter Isabelle, who will soon be turning 4. When I used to live in Sydney, I had no idea how much it costs to raise a child, and am sure that many single people would be the same. We don't have the money to be surrounded by designer furniture, but I have to say, that there are a few pieces that we agreed on to invest in. I love dining tables and have always wanted a designer dining table, so that is one of the pieces I am proud of. It is always great having some meal together at a nice dining table.

The other day our darling Isabelle scribbled all over our beige leather sofa. Thank Goodness it wasn't a designer sofa, can you imagine? I have no idea how I would have reacted to that!

What do you think? Is it worth investing in gorgeous designer furniture or is that something you wouldn't even consider?

Win The Sleekster All About Mum Selection of Chocolates from Hotel Chocolat!

This is the first time I was sent such a sweet treat for a review. I love chocolate, eat some every day, and now even more than before as I have been training for the London Marathon and don't feel very guilty after eating it. When a box of these luxurious and delicious chocolates  from Hotel Chocolat arrived, I opened it and closed it straight away. The smell of chocolate was gorgeous, and if I started eating one, I could probably manage to eat the whole lot in no time...so I left it and after lunch I had my first chocolate with my nespresso coffee. I cannot tell you which one I liked better, they were all yummy and just looked gorgeous. I still haven't finished the box, am really saving them as they are so delicious...

Tara Smith Organic And Natural Haircare Review!

I have been using the fabulous Tara Smith's hair products for more than a week now. I was very excited about getting these for a review, as my hair needs some good nourishing and spoiling after the long winter, humid weather and all that straingtening.

I was sent the feed the root shampoo and conditioner, which as I was told should be used together for the best results. I didn't know what to expect, and to be honest, I am not fussy about shampoos and conditioners for myself, but I thought I would give it a go as I have read about these before.

And what did I think? The shampoo and contioner smelled really nice, and I have to say, that for the first time in my life, my hair felt very different after being washed. It was very soft and sleek, and was so easy to straighten after I blow-dried it. It usually takes my a while to straighten my hair, but this time I just needed to do some finishing touches, which is fabulous, as too much straigtening damages my hair. At the end I used the top glosser and off we went for a nice family lunch. Even daddy realised my hair looked gorgeous and that's how I felt. And another great thing, the products are not tested on animals, but on celebrities!

          Tara Smith’s products are:

The Co-operative - Join The Revolution!

Have you heard of the The Co-operative revolution? It all began in Rochdale, 167 years ago, when a group of everyday people founded a new business based on democratic principles, owned by the customers and reinvesting in the community it served. Check out the video, which reveals how it all started so many years ago, and also indicates how strong it still is so many years on.

When I was reading the real life success stories, I  was really impressed by all of them, but one of them just stood out for me. It was about a community group, Play Montgomeyshire,  which provides families with free or low cost activities that give children greater opportunity to learn through play. One of their services, the Machynlleth Toy Library, came under threat of closure when its existing funding was cancelled. The library is a well-loved part of the local community, and Mieke and the Play Montgomeryshire team were determined to save it. The group approached The Co-operative and secured a donation of £2,000 from their Community Fund. As a result, they are now confident that the library will continue to serve local children.

I think the reason why this story was very close to me is that since having my daughter Isabelle, we have been participating in many  activities run by similar community groups in our neighbourhood. Becoming  a new mum without having any family around was very difficult for me, and the opportunity to attend these was really helping me with all the changes happening in my life. Thanks to that I also met many new mums in similar situation and made a few very good friends, while Isabelle was enjoying herself and learning for a very small charge or for free. I know that many mums would be devastated if these local groups would be cancelled or would be more expensive. Let's face it, raising a child is getting more and more expensive these days, and every little help is appreciated.

I think what Play Montgomeyshire have achieved thanks to the donation from the Co-operative is fantastic and I wish them good luck with their hard work. Don't forget to check out the other stories, they are all really inspiring, and they are all different ( from a cycle workshop expanding to offer cycle training, a Cumbrian village powering their village by wind, to a new generation of inner-city beekeepers). Perhaps you have a great idea, new revolution, which could be great for you and your community. Don't keep it to yourself, apply on the official website. You can also register and vote for the other great revolutions, and follow them on Facebook! Join the revolution! Get involved!

Cake sales, does your school organise these?

I have to admit, that I like baking, but since having Isabelle, I haven't been baking that much. This has been changing as she is getting older. I just didn't have the nerves to tidy the whole kitchen after creating cup cakes when she was much younger. To be honest, I really admire mums, who do that with their kids, and only wish I would be like that.  Anyway, once or twice a  month there is some cake sale at Isabelle's school, which means, that some classes are chosen to donate cakes and then  these are sold and the money raised goes to the school to buy things for the pupils. It's a great idea, but I have somehow left it too late.

As we don't usually bake cup cakes and I don't own the cup cake baking tray, I just bought the mixture and thought they would be fine....Isabelle was so excited, was helping with mixing and loved licking the chocolate from the bowls. Then the disaster came. When I opened the oven, I knew straight away, that baking cup cakes without using the tray was a mistake. I couldn't possibly bring these cup cakes to Isabelle's school. I sent daddy to get the tray, and after putting Isabelle to bed started baking again. This time, they look just perfect and I cannot wait for Isabelle to wake up and see these in the morning. Well, that has taught me a lesson!
